David had to conquer two personal giants before he could be trusted with taking down a corporate Goliath. The lion represents the evil that comes to hunt you down, to stalk you, to wait for your vulnerabilities to show up, and to take advantage of you. The lion can also represent pride and arrogance. The bear represents the evil that hibernates within you. The shame that crushes your spirit. The unconfessed sin that’s hidden. It’s untamed and uncontrollable.
But both of these giants needed to be conquered personally so that when Goliath came to taunt their nation, David was confident of what the Lord could do.
This is a great lesson to remember. Remember the history you have with Jesus, and it will assure you of what will take place again. He is trustworthy. Even more so, we can say he is simply worthy.
